Israel - Jerusalem

Jerusalem  located on a plateau in the Judean Mountains between the Mediterraneanand the Dead Sea, is one of the oldest cities in the world. It is considered holy to the three major Abrahamic religionsJudaismChristianity and IslamIsraelis andPalestinians both claim Jerusalem as their capital, as Israel maintains its primary governmental institutions there and the State of Palestine ultimately foresees it as its seat of power; however, neither claim is widely recognized internationally. Jerusalem is situated on the southern spur of a plateau in the Judean Mountains, which include the Mount of Olives (East) and Mount Scopus (North East). The elevation of the Old City is approximately 760 m (2,490 ft). The whole of Jerusalem is surrounded by valleys and dry riverbeds (wadis). The KidronHinnom, and Tyropoeon Valleys intersect in an area just south of the Old City of Jerusalem.
The Via Dolorosa (Latin,"Way of Grief", "Way of Sorrows", "Way of Suffering" or simply "Painful Way") is a street, in two parts, within the Old City of Jerusalem, held to be the path that Jesus walked, carrying his cross, on the way to his crucifixion.

The Mount of Temptation is said to be the hill in the Judaean Desert where Jesus was tempted by the devil. The exact location is unknown and impossible to determine. It is generally identified with Mount Quarantania, a mountain approximately 366 metres (1,201 ft) high, located about 11 km (6.8 mi) northwest of the West Banktown of Jericho. According to the public domain Catholic Encyclopedia, Quarantania is "a limestone peak on the road from Jerusalem to Jericho".

Caves where shepherds “kept watch over their flock” still abound in the area east of Bethlehem. Here, theGospel of Luke tells us, an angelannounced the birth of Jesus.
