Japan - Izumo

Izumo (出雲市 Izumo-shi?) is a city in Shimane Prefecture, Japan. Izumo is known for Izumo soba noodles and the Izumo Taisha Shinto shrine.
Hinomisaki Shrine is located about 8km north of Izumo Taisha Grand Shrine. The carvings of the main hall and other places are beautiful sculptures of traditional subjects such as dragons and tigers, cranes and tortoises and pines, bamboos. The vermillion-lacquered shrine is designated as a nationally important cultural property.







Izumo-taisha (出雲大社 Izumo Grand Shrine?, also Izumo Ōyashiro) is one of the most ancient and important Shinto shrines in Japan. No record gives the date of establishment. Located in IzumoShimane Prefecture, it is home to two major festivals. It is dedicated to the god Ōkuninushi (Ōkuninushi-no-mikoto), famous as the Shinto deity of marriage.
