Nottingham is a city in the ceremonial county of Nottinghamshire in the East Midlands of England. The City of Nottingham's boundaries are tightly drawn and exclude several suburbs and satellite towns that are usually considered part of Greater Nottingham, including ArnoldCarltonWest BridgfordBeeston and Stapleford. Outlying towns and villages include HucknallEastwoodTollerton,BinghamRuddingtonIlkeston and Long Eaton of which the last two are in Derbyshire. The geographical area of Greater Nottingham includes several local authorities: GedlingBroxtoweRushcliffeAshfieldErewash and Amber Valley.

Nottingham’s Robin Hood statue was unveiled on 24 July 1952 by the Duchess of Portland, Ivy Cavendish-Bentinck, of Welbeck in Nottinghamshire. It was donated to the city by Nottingham industrialist Philip E F Clay, of Radcliffe-on-Trent near Nottingham, who gave £5,000 to Nottingham City Council.
