Nijmegen is a municipality and a city in the European country the Netherlands. There it forms part of the eastern province of Gelderland, where it is situated on the Waal river and quite near to the German border.
Nijmegen is considered one of the three oldest cities in the Netherlands and celebrated its 2,000th year of existence in 2005.

St. Stephen"s Church dates probably from the 7th century AD, when bishop Kunibert of Cologne lead the campaign of spreading Christianity. It was enlarged and restored severaltimes during centuries, but the current exterior dates mainly from the 16th century. It was badly damaged in the Second World War but restored in 1969.
