Encinitas is a coastal beach city in San Diego County, California. Located within Southern California, it is approximately 25 miles (40 km) north of San Diego inNorth County and about 95 miles (153 km) south of Los Angeles. Encinitas lies on rugged coastal terrain. The city is bisected by a low lying coastal ridge that separates New and Old Encinitas. In the north of the city, the coast rises in elevation and the land is raised up in the form of many coastal bluffs. The city is surrounded by Batiquitos Lagoon and San Elijo Lagoon to the north and south, respectively.
This temple is a branch of Self-Realization Fellowship, a worldwide religious organization founded by Paramahansa Yogananda in 1920 to teach scientific techniques of meditation that will lead to a direct, personal relationship with God.

Comprising Redwood National Park (established 1968) and California's Del Norte Coast, Jedediah Smith, and Prairie Creek Redwoods State Parks (dating from the 1920s), the combined RNSP contain 133,000 acres (540 km2)
